- In 2024, we hosted 37 MUES research seminars with external guests—the highest number in the seminar’s history!
- Stephanie Peer holds the record for the highest presence at the MUES Seminar, having presented three times—in 2013, 2018, and 2024.
- We love sharing invited speakers with universities in Prague, Vienna, and Bratislava. For instance, in 2025 David Neumark gave public lectures in both Bratislava and Brno. In 2023, Lata Gangadharan visited CERGE-EI in Prague and then Brno, and we also hosted David Hugh-Jones after his seminar at VŠE in Prague. Back in 2018, Benjamin Elsner presented in Brno after presenting at CERGE-EI in Prague.
- Since 2024, MUES seminars have been held on Thursdays during the semester in room MT205. Students who attend regularly can even sign up for the course DXX_REWA Research Workshop Attendance and earn 2 ECTS credits.
- We invite every speaker for a group lunch or dinner—special thanks to the faculty deans for supporting these gatherings!
- The MUES Seminar started back in 2013 as a joint effort of Masaryk University and Mendel University. Between 2013 and 2017, we welcomed 50 guest speakers in Brno, with seminars alternating equally between the two faculties and financially supported by both institutions.

On October 3, 2013, Filip Pertold was the very first guest invited to the MUES Seminar. He presented the paper “Manipulation of Procurement Contracts: Evidence from the Introduction of Discretionary Thresholds”, which was later published in the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy. Exactly ten years later, on October 3, 2023, we welcomed Filip Pertold back to the MUES Seminar. This time he presented the paper “Parental Allowance Increase and Labor Supply: Evidence from a Czech Reform”, which was later published in Labour Economics.
